Did you know that the location of your fridge in your home could be affecting its performance and cost you more in power charges?
As you visit various homes in the country, you will find that refrigerators are placed in different rooms and sections of a house with each owner having a preference on where the appliance should be placed.
While some prefer to have their fridges in the living room, others choose to place them in the dining room, corridor, store or bedroom. Kitchens are, however, the most preferred section to put the electric appliance.
Nonetheless despite the various considerations, there are certain parameters fridge owners are advised to adhere to when placing a fridge as detailed below;
One of the areas you should avoid placing a fridge is near heat sources such as a gas, ovens, stoves or jiko.
This is because placing the fridge near a heat source forces the appliance to deploy special measures to maintain cool temperatures.
With the use of more energy, more power is also consumed leading to higher electricity charges. This also reduces the efficiency of the fridge in the long run.
“If there are heating appliances, such as a gas stove, nearby, you may experience a decrease in cooling performance and higher electricity bills. However, electrical appliances such as microwaves are okay,” LG advises.
“Placing a microwave on top of the refrigerator can lead to accidents such as appliances falling and pose a safety hazard.”
On the other hand, fridge owners are also advised to place their appliances in properly ventilated rooms.
Poor ventilation results in inadequate airflow around the fridge can cause it to overheat. This eventually makes the fridge inefficient, forcing one to get a replacement.
Therefore, home owners are advised to leave enough space near the appliance for proper ventilation.
An uneven floor can affect the fridge’s levelling and cooling capabilities. Therefore, It’s essential to place the fridge on a flat surface.
On most occasions, people purchase plank wood to help in levelling the fridge.
An unleveled fridge also vibrates too much and can make people uncomfortable at night.
“A levelled refrigerator prevents air leakage, which may cause frost buildup around the ice maker and freezer fans. Proper levelling of the refrigerator and the individual doors ensure efficient operation,” LG states in a cautionary message.

Placing a fridge apart from the kitchen leads to unnecessary energy use as the door is frequently opened.
This leads to higher consumption of electricity. Therefore with high electricity costs, it is wise to have the fridge stationed in the kitchen.
Avoid positioning the fridge in areas where it blocks doorways or walk paths. This can be a safety hazard and lead to inconvenience when one is walking around the kitchen.
On the other hand, fridges near doors often get damaged when people open the know with the knobs causing dents on the fridge’s exterior….CLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLE>>>
