Reno Omokri, a former presidential spokesman, has reiterated that Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, lacks the moral authority to be president of Nigeria following his recent comments on infidelity.
Omokri, an ally of President Bola Tinubu, described Obi’s comments as indecent and a “disrespect” to the sanctity of marriage.
The former Anambra governor, in an interview on the latest edition of the Honest Bunch podcast on Monday, November 4, said he would be unfazed if he caught his wife engaged in extramarital affairs.
According to him, “It’s her business” if she decides to engage in such activities.
“As long as I’m alive, she’s my wife. That’s it. That’s me. I can tell you that. As long as I’m alive, I won’t marry or have anything else. She is my wife. That is sealed. Finished. No matter what she does. No, no, no. Whatever she likes, let her do. Because what could she do to offend me? Maybe have an affair. It’s her business. It’s not me. Who said we are alike?”
The comment, however, triggered Omokri, who opined that Obi’s comment could empower men like Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the Director-General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), who is alleged to have had sexual relations with 400 women.
In a post on X, he said: “A President who does not care if his wife has affairs outside will breed many Balthazar Ebang Engongas around him. It is a very indecent thing to have said and is indicative of disrespect for the sanctity of marriage. Such a person lacks the moral authority to be the President of Nigeria and may want to move to a country where his lax morals align with their way of life.”
