Liverpool and Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk has explained the circumstances behind his accidental injury to teammate Ibrahima Konate during their Premier League win against Brighton on Saturday.
Van Dijk noted that with many players around the ball, he inadvertently headed Konate on the arm. Konate left the match with an apparent injury after going down in pain following a challenge during a corner just before halftime. He exited the pitch with a makeshift sling and was replaced by Joe Gomez at the break.
After the game, Van Dijk commented on the situation, saying, “There were so many bodies around the ball, and I think I headed him on his arm. Hopefully, it’s not too serious. You can manage an arm injury as a player, so I hope he’ll be fine.”
Liverpool will be anxious that the injury to the 25-year-old is not serious, as he has been a vital player under the new setup at Anfield.
