Akpabio expressed his disbelief at the timing and nature of the accusations, questioning why such allegations were brought against Ashiru at 68 years old, and not earlier in his life.
Akpabio pointed out that Senator Ashiru had never been arrested or charged with any drug-related offenses. He also mentioned that NDLEA officials referred to things Ashiru said in the Senate during a televised statement.
However, Akpabio stressed that what senators say during plenary sessions is protected by the Constitution, making them immune from legal challenges based on their statements in the Senate.
Akpabio went further to describe Ashiru as a respectable man, adding that he doesnโt even drink alcohol, making it hard to believe that he could be involved with drugs.
He urged his colleagues to take the allegations seriously, saying that “an injury to one is an injury to all.” He also warned that if NDLEA doesn’t prove their claims, the Senate would take serious action against themโฆCLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLES>>>
