It is believed the Atlantic Salmon 50p is now the rarest in active circulation, beating the Kew Gardens coin off its podium after a whopping 15 years.

In a viral video, they revealed this little error-embellished gem could net you £1,000 easy. The voiceover reveals: “There are two errors with the technology £2 coin.

“The first one is where you can see it’s brass on the outside in colour, silver in the middle. Some of the blanks accidentally slipped into the minting process and they were minted like this.

“But they were all brass in colour so just one solid colour and it could be worth £1,000. The other one there is a rotation error by 45 degrees because of the dye slipping during the minting process.”

The coin expert claims the Queen’s head should be somewhere else and the date must be at the bottom of the coin. They claimed these two errors are “worth thousands of pounds”.

The £2 technology coin, first minted in 1997, boasts a unique bi-metallic design – a first in the history of British coinage. The concentric circles design, crafted by Bruce Rushin, has been featured on £2 coins every year since its inception.

A staggering 416 million were initially released in the 90s, with the coin being issued annually until 2015, as per Change Checker. So, while finding a rare version might be a long shot, it’s not entirely out of the question given the vast mintage.
