This time, Mutuse was on the receiving end of sharp criticism from former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, who boldly suggested the lawmakerโ€™s degree should be revoked.

The former CJโ€™s remark was triggered by a satirical cartoon carried in a local daily, which painted the picture of how Mutuse was torn to shreds earlier this week by a member of Gachaguaโ€™s counsel Elisha Ongoya. โ€œMutuse wallowed in his newfound โ€˜stardomโ€™โ€ฆ until he met Ongoya who promptly turned him into a weasel,โ€ the post from the commentary read.

In response, Mutunga chided with a subtle jab stating: โ€œDo you have a dog in this circus, comrade? I doubt. The Mutuse comment is apt. They should recall Mutuseโ€™s law degree and KSL diploma.”

The bigger picture: Mutuse, who brought forth the impeachment motion against Gachagua before the National Assembly earlier in October with 11 damaging allegations, was left sweating on Wednesday, October 16, thanks to a thorough cross-examination by the ousted DPโ€™s legal team.

Ongoya in particular was in the mood to show his legal prowess as he expertly debunked the allegations against Gachagua, at the expense of a stupefied Mutuse, whose answers were short and unconvincing at times.

In one instance, the mover of the impeachment motion struggled to explain the allegations surrounding the Vipingo Beach Resort, a central asset in the impeachment case.

However, Mutuse made a commendable comeback during the Thursday hearing, as he came up with plausible responses to lingering questions about his allegations He ultimately had the last laugh, as Gachagua was ultimately impeached in his absence โ€“ the first time it has happened since impeachment was introduced in the 2010 Constitution.

What next for Gachagua?

His impeachment has had ripple effects, with at least 108 members of his office directed to proceed on compulsory leave.

The High Court has since suspended the appointment of a new Deputy President, with Justice Chacha Mwita responding swiftly to an application filed by his Advocate, Senior Counsel Paul Muite, challenging the impeachment process.

Following this move, no appointments of a new Deputy President to replace Gachagua will take place until October 24.

Meanwhile, Gachaguaโ€™s Mount Kenya rival Kithure Kindiki was nominated by President William Ruto as the new Deputy President โ€“ an appointment which was approved by the National Assemblyโ€ฆCLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLES>>>
