Honourable Zena Atetwe Rashid Jalenga passed away in the early morning of Sunday, October 20, following a long battle with an undisclosed illness

Announcing her death, Chief Justice Martha Koome condoled with the family praising her firm commitment to the cause of justice and the rule of law.

“It is with a profound sense of loss and sadness that I announce the death of Hon. Zena Atetwe Rashid Jalenga, Resident Magistrate, Milimani Commercial Court, which occurred early in the morning of October 20, 2024, following a long illness bravely borne,” Martha Koome shared.

According to the Chief Justice, Hon. Jalenga exhibited a firm commitment to the cause of justice and the rule of law and worked diligently to serve people from all walks of life with fairness and justice.

CJ Koome further paid tribute to the late magistrate whom she noted upheld the values of the Constitution in service to the nation in an unwavering manner which should be emulated.

“On my own behalf and that of the Judiciary fraternity, I extend heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and loved ones,” CJ Martha commiserated.

“We pray that the Almighty God graces us the fortitude to brave this difficult period and rests her soul in eternal peace.”

Jalenga was a board member of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities. The National Council for Persons with Disabilities is a state corporation established by an Act of Parliament; the Persons with Disabilities Act No. 14 of 2003 and set up in November 2004.

The National Council for Persons with Disabilities was formed to promote and protect the equalisation of opportunities and realization of human rights for PWDs to live decent livelihoods.

Zena Atetwe Rashid held a Post Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law as well as a Bachelor of Legislative Law (LLB) Degree from the University of Nairobi (UoN).
