Gachagua lawyers expected in court after Senate ouster
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s lawyers are expected in court on Friday morning following the Senate’s decision to impeach him.
The Senate voted late on Thursday night to uphold five of the 11 charges against Gachagua despite his hospitalisation.
He had failed to take to the witness stand at the Senate on Thursday afternoon with his lawyer Paul Mwite telling the House that he had been taken ill.
Following the successful ouster, Gachagua’s lawyers burn the midnight oil to prepare for an appearance in court on Friday morning to seek orders suspending the impeachment.
Gachagua Impeachment Gazetted, President Ruto Set To Nominate New DP
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has gazetted the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, consequently formalizing the removal of the country’s second in command from office.
The Gazette Notice dated October 17, 2024, was released last night immediately after the Senate approved the impeachment motion against Gachagua.
In the notice, the Senate Speaker listed the five out of 11 grounds on which the Senate voted to have Gachagua sent home.
Gachaguaโs security scaled down after impeachment
The security attached to Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been scaled down.
Officials said the move came after Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi gazetted his removal from office through an impeachment.
Whereas security had been heightened at the hospital before his impeachment, the same was scaled down past midnight when the gazette notice came out.
The same happened to most of his establishments that had armed security.
He enjoyed the security of more than 50 officers from the General Service Unit’s Recce Unit which also guards the president. Other officers from the General Duty and Administration Police Service also supplemented the team.

Mbele iko sawa! Mutuse says after Gachagua ouster
Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse has said that he is a proud Kenyan after the National Assembly and the Senate approved the impeachment motion against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a statement, Mutuse said Kenya will never be the same again.
He insisted that the decision will now force those in leadership to always abide by the constitution and laws of Kenya.
