Lead counsel Paul Muite had appealed to the Speaker Amason Kingi to suspend the sittings to Saturday, citing Gachaguaโ€™s hospitalization due to severe chest pains as grounds for the delay.

However, the Senate dismissed the request and instead voted to continue the trial on Saturday.

Following the decision, Gachaguaโ€™s legal team sought permission to withdraw from delivering their closing arguments.

โ€œMr Speaker, through you, let me recognise the right of this Honourable Senate to decide any issue put to it democratically which Mr. Speaker is what has happened,โ€ Muite state

โ€œArising for that decision of this Honourable Senate, was the legal team representing the DP are not able to continue appearing without instructions. We humbly and with a lot of requests take your leave Mr Speaker and the leave of this honourable house.โ€
