DP Gachagua will today, Wednesday, October 16, 2024, appear in the Senate as the hearing of his impeachment case commences.
Speaking during a televised interview withK24 TVon Wednesday, October 16, 2024, Nabwera stated that DP Gachagua should be worried about Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau, who will be witnessing against him.
According to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker, the Senate that will hear Gachaguaโs impeachment in plenary does not need all the 11 charges leveled against the DP to have him impeached.
Nabwera argues that Wanjau will be witnessing against Gachagua on the charge of gross misconduct and matters to do with confidentiality.
โThere could be a lot of issues around the rule of evidence, but the issue of gross misconduct, do you know one of the witnesses, who I should have been worried about if I was the deputy president is the secretary to the cabinet. What she is coming to address is the issue of gross misconduct, issue of confidentiality,โ Nabwera stated.
DP Gachagua and the counsel representing him will be introduced in the Senate between 10.30 am and 11.00 am, according to the impeachment hearing programme
that was released on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
Charges against DP Gachagua will be read between 11:00 am and 11:30 am, with an opening statement on behalf of the National Assembly being allocated 30 minutes.
The opening statement on behalf of the Deputy President has also been allocated 30 minutes.
Between 12:00 noon and 1.00 pm, there will be evidence by the National Assembly, which comprises evidence of witnesses, cross-examination, and re-examination. The Senate has allocated a total of 3 hours for the evidence of the National Assembly and a total of 2 hours for cross-examination.
The house will then break for lunch between 1:00 PM and 2.30 PM before resuming for an afternoon session that will see the continuation of evidence by the National Assembly between 2:30 pm and 6:30 pm.
