Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has urged Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua not to step down ahead of his anticipatedย impeachment trial at the Senate.ย Kalonzo’s remarks came during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, October 15, where he shared his perspective onย Gachagua’s tribulations.ย The veteran politician cautioned Gachagua that resigning at this stage would not only tarnish his reputation but also expose him to further troubles.[โ€ฆ]CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL ARTICLEโ–ถ

Kalonzo warned that resigning could open the door for more cases against Gachagua, potentially designed to discredit his character.

He cited the history of politicians facing charges after leaving office, noting that if he resigns, this could be the path Gachagua finds himself on.

“I respect his judgement because of the stage at which this process is now; if he resigns, then everybody will say, Aah, yes, there are things. In fact, he runs the risk of now being charged with manipulation and trumped-up charges; have we not seen that and all manner of things to demean his character,” Kalonzo stated.

The former second in command acknowledged that the current politicalย climateย is favouring Gachagua. He argued that a large portion of the public sympathises with him not because they like him but because they perceive him as facing injustice.

“If I live in this country, the population is on the side of the DP. Not because they love him or anything, but I think because they see injustice. An injustice committed to one person, even though it is the DP, is an injustice to the whole country,” he said.

Kalonzo advised Gachagua to see the impeachment process through and maintain his dignity, urging him to stand firm if his conscience is clear.

“I think his decision to continue until the end of the process is laudable. If I were in his shoes, I would go all the way. At least he can have a name to take home with me. You don’t always have to do things to please or be afraid. If he has nothing in his conscience, he should fight on. If he has nothing to fear, it is good,” Kalonzo added.

Meanwhile, the deputy presidentย downplayed his looming impeachment by the Senate.ย During a church service in Embu county on Sunday, October 13, the embattled second in command said he was not worried about his ongoing tribulations.

Gachagua, recently impeached by MPs and awaiting a decision from the Senate, said he has hopes that God will see him through his troubles.

While finding solace in the Bible, Gachagua said that humans can plan evil things about themselves, but God is their defenderโ€ฆCLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLES>>>
