Following the sudden loss of a first-year student who was found dead in her dorm, Sigalagala Polytechnic is in grief. Ashley Magero, also known as Immaculate Nekesa, expressed concern after missing two days of class.

Head of Student Welfare Ronnie Otieno revealed in a special conversation that Ashleyโ€™s classmates became concerned when she skipped a practical lesson on Friday, October 11.

Not even on Thursday, during a first-year student welcoming ceremony, had anyone seen Ashley. They sensed something was awry when she didnโ€™t attend Fridayโ€™s class.

When her phone rang without an answer, her students went to her room and found it locked. Otieno recalled, โ€œWe had to break the door to get in because she was lying lifeless on the floor.โ€

โ€œThe cooking gas was on, and a pot of burnt tea and a jiko used to boil meat were found.โ€

Otieno speculated that asphyxia from the airtight chamber might have caused her untimely death.

She looked like she was struggling to open the door, but it was overwhelming. He said, โ€œItโ€™s likely that the Jiko choked her.โ€

After informing her family, they moved Ashleyโ€™s remains to a mortuary in her home county of Bungoma.

Since the school reopened, there have been four student deaths, leaving the town in mourning.

โ€œWe buried our lecturer yesterday. Weโ€™re inconsolable and asking for Godโ€™s strength,โ€ Otieno said.

According to the KNCHR investigation, Ashley was well-known for her enthusiastic involvement in the anti-finance bill demonstrations that resulted in the deaths of 39 young peopleโ€ฆCLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLES>>>
