When I got to the kitchen, he asked me why the gas, which was filled three weeks ago, was empty. I said I hadn’t told him it was out because it had just run out. I tried to explain that the gas was used up quickly because of the hot water needed for nursing, the baby, and my mom. While I was calming him down, he slapped me. My mom heard me crying and came into the kitchen.

She asked my husband why he hit me and if that was how he treated me. I tried to calm her down to avoid making things worse. My husband then demanded that we have gas in the cylinder by the time he returned in the evening and said he didn’t care how we did it.

When my mom asked if hitting me was worth it and why he was being disrespectful to her over gas, he hit me again. My mom grabbed him by his shirt, and he pushed her. She hit her head on the wall and fell down. We rushed her to the hospital, but she was confirmed dead.

I had to lie to my father and siblings, saying that Mama fell from the stairs and hit her head. She has been buried, but I find it very hard to forgive my husband.
