Fast forward to 2023, I fell sick. After several tests, no cause could be found for my illness. We moved from one hospital to another, but nothing was discovered. My mom came over to take care of me. She became my eyes, ears, legsโbasically everything for me. She cooked, cleaned, and washed everything that needed to be washed. No one could have done more than my mom did for me.
Then, my mother-in-law arrived. She started treating my mom like her maid. She would send my mom to the kitchen to make food for her and bring down her clothes, telling my mom to wash them. When my mom eventually told me she wanted to go back to her house, I asked her why she wanted to leave me in this condition. My mom didnโt want to complain, but I made her tell me the truth.
She told me how my mother-in-law was treating her like a servant. I talked to my husband about it, and he said, โIf your mom is tired of helping us, then she should leave instead of complaining.โ His words left me wishing I hadnโt said anything.
Last week, my husband came out of the bedroom and went to his wardrobe. โWhere is my black shirt? I wore it last in April. It should be washed, ironed, and ready by now,โ he said, sounding annoyed. โDonโt tell me your mom didnโt wash it!โ
He then shouted my momโs name, and when she came, he asked, โDidnโt you wash my black shirt with the silver stone pattern?โ
โOh, my son, I havenโt seen that shirt since the last time you wore it,โ my mom replied.
Without warning, my husband slapped my mom.
Immediately, I called my two sisters and brothers to come over to the house from wherever they were. By the time they arrived, my husband had already left. I told them what happened, and we all broke down crying. That very day, we left the house together.
I couldnโt watch my mom cry every day because of my marriage.
