This beautification project will cover the stretch from the Athi River to the Westlands and comes as part of broader efforts to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of this key route.
KeNHA Director-General Kungu Ndungโu presented the project details before the Senate Committee on Cohesion, Equal Opportunity, and Regional Integration.
He confirmed that two contractors have been engaged for the task, with one focused on upgrading the road from the James Gichuru interchange to the Ole Sereni Hotel interchange with a budget of KES 18 million, while the second contractor will handle the segment from Ole Sereni Hotel to Athi River at a cost of KES 24 million.
โGiven the importance of this road as a gateway to Nairobi, a facelift is essential,โ Mr. Ndungโu stated. He further highlighted that the beautification is anticipated to be completed within three months.
Alongside the beautification project, KeNHA is collaborating with Nairobi City County to address maintenance issues along Mombasa Road, particularly from JKIA to the city center.
Additionally, KeNHA is enhancing its commitment to social inclusion with a substantial allocation of KES 1.73 billion aimed at procurement opportunities for women, youth, and persons with disabilities for the 2023/24 financial year.
This initiative aligns with the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, which mandates public entities to reserve at least 30 percent of their procurement budgets for disadvantaged groups.
