He stated that the impeachment process has become a battle between rivals and urged MPs and senators not to frame it as a community issue.

What did Kioni say appointment of Gachagua’s replacement?

Speaking to the press on Friday, October 11, Kioni advised Ruto against considering the appointment of another deputy president from the Mt. Kenya region if Gachagua is impeached.

He argued that appointing someone from the central region as Gachagua’s successor would put the community in conflict with other tribes.

He stated that the deputy president’s impeachment has become a community and tribal issue, which is harmful to the country.

“You plan to give the seat to Mt. Kenya to put us at loggerheads with other tribes in the country. After what you’re doing with this impeachment, any person who will occupy that seat will be a puppet,” Kioni said.

He stated that whoever is appointed if Gachagua is impeached will lack influence in the government and will always be instructed on what to do, arguing that individuals from Mt. Kenya cannot fulfil such a role.
