On the heels of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment motion, Ruku emphasised an MP’s responsibility to hold the government to account by demanding better accountability and effective delivery of services.

The public has criticised the Adani deal for been shrouded in secrecy, with Kenyans calling for transparency on such deals.

“As a holder of a state office, it is high time that we know that we’re holding these offices in trust of the people. These are not our offices, and moving forward we’re giving notice to the president of the Republic of Kenya. All the issues that are not going properly in the government must be streamlined,” he said during a K24 interview.

“If there are issues with Adani, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health. We will be demanding very soon in the National Assembly to see that things are implemented in the most appropriate way because that’s what the people want,” he added.

On Tuesday, 281 MPs supported the impeachment bid in an unprecedented move.

He noted that other marginalised communities felt sidelined from remarks emanating from the Second in Command.

“I represent a very marginalised community and when a state officer smacks arrogance that a community like Mbeere cannot get services from the government because we are few in terms of tribe, then the people I represent am sure they cannot work with such a person,” he noted.

Similar to a DP’s impeachment, it’s only an MP who can move a motion to impeach a president if they garner support from at least a third of their colleagues.

In line with Article 145 of the Constitution, the petition should prove that the president either engages in gross misconduct, violates the Constitution or commits a crime under national or international lawโ€ฆCLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLES>>>
