Through a Facebook post, Wamumbi urged the youth to apply, saying, “17 posts in Mathira Constituency are now vacant, an advert for applications will be coming out shortly.”

Wamumbi, who belongs to President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance Party (UDA) was among the 281 legislators who voted YES, to have Gachagua impeached on 11 grounds, including gross misconduct, illegally acquiring Ksh 5.2 billion in wealth and economic crimes.

The timing of the lawmaker’s job vacancy announcement was interesting, particularly because he had a public falling out with Gachagua, who vehemently campaigned for him to win the Mathira seat.

In July, 2024, Wamumbi confirmed there was bad blood between himself and the DP, saying, “It is true, there is a rift between the Deputy President and I. The rift is not about the closed bars in Karatina Town which have left the town dead for four months.”

He also called out Gachagua for allegedly being dishonest about the reason the pair fell out. Around that time, the DP asserted that some officers from the Ministry of Interior were sabotaging the fight against illicit brew in the region.

Gachagua, in his speech at Kiamariga market on July 7, boldly called out the Mathira MP accusing him of betrayal. The Deputy President claimed he felt hard done especially since he was the mastermind behind the lawmaker’s parliamentary win.

“It is unbelievable that a person I assisted to win the Mathira parliamentary seat as now turned against me,” Gachagua said, accusing Wamumbi of lying about talking to ‘higher powers’ to have 400 bars reopened in the area.

Around the time the two leaders’ fallout went public, Wamumbi was forced to issue a statement denying that he had filed an impeachment motion against Gachagua after a fake circular bearing his name began doing rounds on social media.

The bigger picture: A Gachagua impeachment will likely come with a ripple effect, not just in his office. With his fate all but sealed, Gachagua’s only hope is with the Senate and the courts.

The Senate will will hear the impeachment motion against the DP on Wednesday and Thursday next week via the plenary way.

The decision was arrived at after the Minority Leader in the Senate, Edwin Sifuna, opposed the motion to have the matter heard by an 11-member committee.

As this is happening, Gachagua, through his legal team, is expected to challenge possible impeachment at the courts…CLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLES>>>
