In his message to the House, Kingi said the impeachment motion was unique and unprecedented as it was the first ever in the country to propose the removal of a Deputy President.
โThis moment calls for a deep reflection on the critical responsibility of the Senate in investigating the removal of state officers from office,โ he said.
He noted that the impeachment process is a fundamental tool of legislative oversight and a crucial tool for checks and balances.
Kingi further noted that the Senate has been entrusted by the Constitution to sit and investigate any proposed removal from office by impeachment from office of the President, Deputy President, county governors and deputy county governors.
โThis is yet another opportunity for the senate to demonstrate its fidelity to the Constitution and to live up to its reputation,โ Kingi added.
He said the Senate, as the trial chamber, must maintain integrity and impartiality in the administration of justice and decide on the matter based purely on merit.
โAs this matter comes before you, I cannot underscore enough the immense public interest that the matter has elicited and for good reason,โ he stated.
