How many Kenyans are registered with SHA?

The Social Health Authority (SHA) transitioned all registered and verified National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) members to the new health scheme.

The authority revealed in a press statement on Monday, October 7, that 12,704,548 members have been onboarded onto SHA.

“This number includes verified members who were under the defunct NHIF and who have been transitioned to the Social Health Authority as per Legal Notice No. 147 of 2024,” Medical Service Principle Secretary (PS) Harry Kimtai said.
Is SHA registration ongoing?

Kimtai, alongside SHA officials, emphasised that the registration of membership is a continuous process and is ongoing through the USSD *147* or web-based portal.

They urged all SHIF service beneficiaries to ensure they include their dependents while registering for SHA.

“We call upon all to add their dependents for them to access healthcare services as well.
“All Registered SHA Beneficiaries are entitled to free access to Primary Healthcare Services under the Primary Healthcare Fund at Levels 2 (Dispensaries), 3 (Health Centres), and select level 4 Health Facilities and Emergency services in all Health Facilities,” the statement read in part.
How many hospitals offer SHIF services?

SHA contracted 1,442 health facilities, which are now offering services to registered beneficiaries.

In September 2024, SHA invited healthcare providers (HCPs) and healthcare facilities (HCFs) to submit contractual applications to offer services under SHIF.

This came ahead of the official rollout of the Social Health Authority (SHA), which will take over from the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) on October 1, 2024…CLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLES>>>
