Petit cited Arteta’s familiarity with the club and his understanding of Guardiola’s philosophy, honed during his six-year stint as Guardiola’s assistant at City and replicated in his current managerial role at Arsenal.

“If Guardiola does decide to leave, the best possible replacement would be Mikel Arteta,” Petit said, as quoted by the Daily Star. “He knows the club, and he knows the philosophy which he has tried to repeat at Arsenal.”

Petit also suggested Guardiola’s energy levels may be waning, noting that the Spanish manager “has begun to show signs of tiredness in the last two years, and you can sometimes see that he is lacking energy.”

While acknowledging City wouldn’t be the only suitor for Arteta’s services, Petit emphasised the Spaniard’s suitability for the role.

Arteta’s impressive work at Arsenal, combined with his existing knowledge of City’s inner workings, make him an attractive candidate to take the reins.
