Parliament: How to Submit Your Views On Gachagua’s Impeachment Motion

In a statement on Wednesday, October 2, the National Assembly noted that Kenyans can send their views via email to impeachment@parliament.go.ke before October 5.

“The National Assembly invites all Kenyans to present their views on the special motion for removal from office by impeachment of deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua. Submissions to be emailed to impeachment@parliament.go.ke on or before Saturday, 5th October 2024,” read the statement.

At the same time, parliament disclosed that public hearings on the motion will be held on Friday, October 4, across the country, where the views will be collated.

Similarly, the views can be forwarded to the Clerk of the National Assembly via P.O. Box 41842-00100 Nairobi or hand delivered to his office at Main Parliament buildings in Nairobi.

On Wednesday, the National Assembly approved a motion to suspend its sitting on Thursday, October 3, to allow for administrative arrangements necessary to facilitate the public participation program for the impeachment motion against Gachagua.

It also approved a motion to hold a morning sitting on Tuesday, October 8, to begin the debate on the impeachment motion and to continue until the conclusion of the consideration during the afternoon sitting on the same day.

Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Mwengi Mutuse on Tuesday, October 1, formally tabled the impeachment motion against the deputy president in Parliament.

While tabling the motion, Mutuse presented 11 charges against Gachagua, including corruption, money laundering, and gross misconduct.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula approved the motion, stating that it met the threshold after 291 MPs signed it.
