Several people have since received messages notifying them of the changes.
“Your NHIF account has been migrated successfully to Social Health Authority. To update your profile dial *147#, visit sha.go.ke or any authorized SHA agent,” the messages read.
This comes a day after the Ministry of Health rolled out SHA.
The scheme has since passed 12.5 million registrations, being a milestone despite initial skepticism following SHA’s launch.
On Tuesday, nearly 400,000 new registrations were recorded, summing up to 12,540,117 subscribers.
During the rollout, PS for Health Mary Muthoni assured Kenyans that the contributions already made to NHIF will be safely transferred to SHA.
โNo money is going to be lost, that money will be rolled to SHA,โ she said.
SHA CEO Elijah Wachira assured that no contracted health providers will deny members access to dialysis, cancer, or maternity services.
His remarks follow several complaints from the public that some health providers have informed patients they will need to pay cash for these services moving forward.
“No member will be denied access to dialysis or cancer services. Maternity services should not be denied at Kenya Essential Package for Health (KEPH) level 2 and 3 facilities, and actively managed schemes will continue to access services,” he said.
Wachira also stated that Kenyans covered by NHIF and yet to shift to SHA will still receive treatment, a statement reiterated by Health Cabinet Secretary Debrah Barasa.
They will however be required to register as soon as possible.
“Those that were under the NHIF cover and haven’t transitioned to SHA will still be attended to. No hospital will send anyone back home because they haven’t registered. Instead, they will register you and treat you, ” Barasa saidโฆCLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLES>>>
