I met him in Port Harcourt, and we were so much in love. A simple promise wasn’t enough for us, so we decided to take a blood covenant, swearing never to leave each other until death. He came to pay my bride price, and everything went smoothly.

That very night, I was taken to his village by his parents. I was called out for a proper ritual according to their tradition. I was given a white shirt and a tie. After everything was done, my husband was called to hold my hand and deliver one final message, as a reminder—because apparently, it was assumed he had already informed me.
