I met him in Port Harcourt, and we were so much in love. A simple promise wasnโ€™t enough for us, so we decided to take a blood covenant, swearing never to leave each other until death. He came to pay my bride price, and everything went smoothly.

That very night, I was taken to his village by his parents. I was called out for a proper ritual according to their tradition. I was given a white shirt and a tie. After everything was done, my husband was called to hold my hand and deliver one final message, as a reminderโ€”because apparently, it was assumed he had already informed me.

Then, my husband said the words: โ€œThe day you cheat on me, you will run mad. Never to recover until you join your ancestors.โ€ My heart started racing, even though I had no intention to cheat. I felt like this was such a heavy curse placed on me.
