In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Havi expressed frustration and criticism toward the members of the National Assembly.

He argued that the MPs initially failed to hold former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi accountable for serious misconduct, including permitting the sale of counterfeit fertilizer and fake maize seeds.

This is after seven MPs  saved Linturi from impeachment.Only four of 11 committee members voted for his dismissal, allowing him to remain in his position as Cabinet secretary.

Despite this, the MPs seek to impeach the deputy president over what Havi believes is not a serious issue.

“The National Assembly could not impeach Mithika Linturi for selling us counterfeit fertilizer and fake maize seeds but want to impeach Rigathi Gachagua for being a clown,” his statement read in part.

This comes after 242 members of Parliament signed a petition to impeach the country’s deputy president,  surpassing the 117 signatures needed to initiate formal proceedings.

The charges in the motion against the deputy president include constitutional violations, related legal breaches, gross misconduct, and abuse of office.

Additional concerns raised by MPs include his contentious remarks about the Mt. Kenya region being shareholders in the Kenya Kwanza government and accusations of promoting divisive politics in the country.

He was also accused of violating the Official Secrets Act and undermining the Cabinet’s collective responsibility.

Another concern is Gachagua’s decision to blame the National Intelligence Service for the deadly protests against the Finance Bill 2024.
