Speaking at a recent event at the Karuma Hydropower plant, he playfully remarked that he would likely βbe in Heavenβ in 30 years, highlighting his familyβs history of longevity by adding, βIn 20 years from now, Iβll be 100 years of age. But you never know, because my uncle died at 106.β
Museveniβs comments came as he addressed the pressing issue of Ugandaβs energy production and infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of forward planning.
He urged Ugandans to examine the kilowatt-hours (kWh) per capita in countries like the US and those in Europe to assess Ugandaβs standing in energy output.
βGo and look at the internet for the kWh per capita of the US, Europe and other places,β he advised, stressing that simply commissioning new power plants is not enough to meet the nationβs growing needs.
With Ugandaβs population projected to reach 100 million in 30 years, Museveni raised valid concerns about the countryβs capacity to support such growth.
He called on engineers to calculate Ugandaβs current kWh per capita, advocating for a proactive approach to ensure that energy infrastructure keeps pace with demographic changes.
