MPs Benjamin Gathiru Mwangi (Embakasi Central) and James Mwangi Gakuya (Embakasi North) along with three of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s aides George Theuri, Martin Deric Ngunjiri Wambugu and Pius G. Munene are now facing charges for incitement, money laundering and conspiracy to commit a felony in connection with recent anti-government protests.
Kenyawide.comhas learnt that, in a letter penned to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Mohamed Amin, DPP Renson Ingonga cited there was adequate evidence to incriminate the four.
Additionally, the ODPP ordered a separate inquiry file be opened for money laundering activities and financial crimes-related offences and the police inquiry file returned to Ingonga’s office immediately.
“The inquiry file was placed before the Director of Public Prosecutions for perusal and directions. Upon careful perusal, the DPP has directed that there is sufficient evidence to charge the suspects with the offence of conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to section 393 of the Penal Code,” Ingonga stated.
Ingonga’s directive comes a day after DCI Boss Amin preferred charges against Embakasi North Member of Parliament James Gakuya alongside his Embakasi Central counterpart Benjamin “Mejja Donk” Gathiru.
Speaking in Nyeri yesterday at Endarasha School, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua warned the governmet against trumping up charges using State apparatus to fight him out of government.
“The use of the criminal justice system to manage politics is an outdated political strategy that was used in the past”.
