CS Kindiki Said All Police Reservists Would Get Salaries Via Mobile Money Beginning October

Appearing before the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, the CS noted that the officers would no longer receive their money in hard cash but rather through mobile money services.

While appraising the committee, CS Kindiki stated that the new mode of payment would kick off in October, a move which he clarified was aimed at enhancing accuracy and uniformity.

“We have said no more cash payments for the National Police Reservists (NPRs), the money will be sent directly to their mobile money,” the CS noted.

An NPR is a civilian volunteer recruited by the National Police Service (NPS) to assist police officers in executing their mandate, especially where there is a shortage of police officers.

The CS was forced to issue clarity on the matter after Elgeyo Marakwet County Women Representative Caroline Jeptoo raised concerns over delays in payment of the officers.

According to Jeptoo, most of the NPRs faced hurdles especially when it came to payment since some of the Officers Commanding Police Divisions (OCPDs) intentionally delayed salary disbursement for the NPRs.

“Their salaries even accumulate for several months while in some of the situations, others contemptuously ignore the NPRs and compare them to other civilians,” the MP stated.

“So, kindly harmonise and ensure that at least what they are paid gets to them,” Jeptoo added.

Meanwhile, Kindiki who addressed the committee called on the Members of Parliament to support the police service in ensuring that it achieves its mandate of protecting the nation.

The CS also urged the legislators to consider passing a law to enhance the budget allocation to the police service. According to Kindiki, adequate budget allocation would help solve such problems.
