Kalonzo Supports Renaming Hillside Academy To Honour The 21 Students Killed

“I was going to propose a name in memory of these little ones here—Hillside Endarasha Memorial School. Let’s remember these kids,” Kalonzo said,

Kalonzo pledged his support for both the school and the parents who have been left devastated by the incident.

“We are going to stand with them and the parents of this school,” he said.

The service, graced by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, was held at Mweiga Stadium in Nyeri County.

Most of them were burnt beyond recognition by the fire, which engulfed the boys’ dormitory as they slept.

More than 150 pupils were in the dormitory when the inferno struck.

During his address, Kalonzo also revised the Kyanguli fire tragedy of 2001 and shared the lessons learned from that incident.

“I also handled the Kyanguli tragedy when I was the minister for education and we came up with the approach not to allow doors to be closed from the inside to allow the children to escape,” he said.
