It is not just peculiar but also fascinating, what nature has in store for us as food. Not just cereals, meats, pulses, fruits and vegetables that you usually consume, there are some weird foods too that people love to eat.
2. Tarantula
In parts of Thailand, Cambodia and the Philippines, people eat Tarantula. Tarantula is a spider that is the size of the human palm. It tastes bland. This delicacy is eaten for its taste and surprisingly numerous health benefits.
3. Mouse plunged wine
In some parts of Korea, people consume a type of rice wine that has a living baby mouse plunged into it. It tastes like gasoline according to people who have tasted it.
4. Fugu
The Japanese food is full of flavour, is creative and very interesting! If you would like to cheat death then you should definitely try eating Fugu, a type of deadly blowfish that is prepared by special chefs to get the right amount of poison that will tickle your lips but not kill you.
5. Virgin Egg
People from parts of China proudly boast about the “thousand-year egg” that is on the menu, though it’s pretty self-explanatory itself as the eggs are not literally a thousand years old. The eggs of duck, quail and chicken are buried in the mixture of clay, rice, salt and ash for several months before consumption. Another dish that you might want to try is the virgin egg that is soaked in the urine of young boys.
6. The Hákarl
Iceland and Greenland may test your metal physically by their cold and dark weather but some parts of these places may also put your stomach to test by a dish that is offered there, named as “The Hákarl – aka fermented shark”. This dish is prepared by burying the shark under the sand to let it rot and then it is strung up to be dried for a couple of months more. It has an ammonia-like odour which can bowl you over in just one whiff. But those who eat it, swear by its taste!
7. Bull Testicles
Little did you know that somewhere in the world people have a stomach-churning food tradition. They celebrate a festival known as “the testicle festival” popularly known as the “Testy Festy”. In this festival, people eat deeply fried bull balls. You pay just $17 and chug a glass of beer and watch sweaty contestants eating testicles! It is one classy festival ya all!
8. Foie gras
Foie gras that translates to fatty liver is a luxury food product that is made with duck or goose liver. These animals are force fed to develop a fatty liver and then slaughtered to be served. It has many health and nutritional benefits.
9. Kopi luwak
Also known as the civet coffee, it is partially digested coffee cherries that are eaten and defecated by cats. Kopi Luwak beans are smooth, aromatic and consist of lesser caffeine after this process.
10. Tuna eyes
