Addressing newsmen on Tuesday on the topic, “the Moves by INEC to Destroy Evidence of its Rigging of the February 25, 2023 Presidential Election,” the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Debo Ologunagba revealed that on Monday about 10:10pm made a desperate move to wipe out relevant information from the BVAS by approaching the court.
“We have contacted you to warn Nigerians and the international community of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) appalling attempt to delete and erase proof of its abominable rigging of the February 25, 2023 Presidential election,” the party claimed.
“Late yesterday at 10:10 pm, INEC filed a motion asking to be allowed to reconfigure the BVAS machines and wipe out pertinent information that our Party and Candidate require to prosecute our case at the Presidential Election Tribunal. This was done in a desperate attempt to prevent our Party and Candidate from obtaining necessary evidence as ordered by the Court.
“This abhorrent action by INEC to thwart Nigerians’ desire to seek redress through the legal system is a clear recipe for crisis and a purposeful intent by the Commission to derail our democracy and spark anarchy in the country,” said one observer.
Daily Independent report that the PDP questioned why Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of INEC, rushed to declare a winner despite widespread protests and complaints about numerous instances of irregularities and violations of various provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022 by INEC and its officials, and pointed out that this is a direct violation of the country’s electoral law.
“Nigerians can remember how INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu oversaw the manipulation of the results of the Presidential election and hastily announced a winner in spite of widespread outcry and complaints over numerous evidence of malpractices and violation of several provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022 by INEC and its officials,” he said.
In order to announce and declare only results that were transmitted directly from the Polling Units to the INEC Server/Website and to review the results in the event of disputes and objections as to the correctness and consistency of the collated result, the INEC Chairman bypassed all the steps and procedures stipulated by the Electoral Act, 2022 for the declaration of results.
