Newsbreak.ng reports that Lawan had contested the APC presidential ticket in June, where he lost to Bola Tinubu. He came fourth.
A letter circulating on social media claims that Machina, the senatorial candidate for Yobe North resigned his APC membership and also withdrew from contesting in the 2023 general elections. But the senatorial hopeful said the news is untrue, adding that the purported letter is fabricated.
“It has been brought to my notice that some unscrupulous elements forged a letter of my withdrawal from the race out of mischief and blackmail,” NAN quoted him as saying.
“I state unequivocally that the letter was forged. I did not at any time withdraw or resign from the APC.
“I was shocked when I discovered that some persons concocted plans to mislead the public, particularly my supporters into believing that I have withdrawn.”
This newspaper understands that Machina has been approached by some APC stakeholders to step down for Lawan, but the immediate past Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigeria Shippers Council (NSC), has vowed not to.
