Obi defeated the presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and a former Governor of Lagos State, Senator Asiwaju Vola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and a former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and the former Governor of Kano State and the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) State Collation Officer, Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, who is the Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom, said Obi polled a total 331,163 votes to defeat other candidates.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu of APC scored 144,471 votes to finish second while Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, garnered 89,585 votes, and Rabiu Kwakwanso of the NNPP scored 2,743 votes.
